Mohammad Munir Al-Rusan (January 8 – March 8, 2015)
Mohammad is a final year medical student from Jordan University of Science and Techology who spent his time learning and observing in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.


Dr. Yong Wang (January 2015 – December 2015)
Dr. Wang visited the Cardiovascular Center for one year to observe cardiac surgery cases and study circulatory support and cardiac transplantation surgery.  He was from the Institute for Cardiovascular Surgery at Xinqiao Hospital, The 3rd Military University in Chong Qing China and was supported by the China Scholarship Council and mentored by Dr. Bo Yang.

Dr. Amo-Antwi visited from Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi, Ghana.  He will be observing and learning in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Christopher is a final year medical student at Medical University of the Americas in the Caribbean.  He spent his time learning and observing in the Department of Surgery and the Department of Urology.

Maria Belen is a final year medical student at PUCE in Ecuador who participated in a four week elective in Internal Medicine. (See the group photo above with the students from the University of Saõ Paulo) 


Peking University Health Science Center (February 6, 2015)
The PUHSC delegation spent one day meeting with faculty in MICHR, Learning Health Sciences, and Medical Student Education. Members of the delegation included Shandong Xu, Yan Xu, Yu Wang, and Lei Guo.


Riho Hashimoto (February 7 – March 29, 2015)
Riho is a medical student at Kyoto University who spent her time learning and observing research techniques in the Endocrinology laboratory of her mentor, Dr. Tae-Hwa Chun.

Ko is a final year medical student from Okayama University Medical School in Japan who participated in a four-week elective in the Department of Internal Medicine.


Dr. Julijana Mudinova (April 1 – June 1, 2015)
Dr. Mudinova is a physiatrist from Macedonia.  She visited UMHS with the support of the Ministry of Health – Republic of Macedonia and spent her time learning and observing in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.  Her main focuses were rehabilitation following joint replacement prosthesis, pediatric rehabilitation (neuromuscular disorders) and rehabilitation following spine surgery.


Dr. Xiuhua Wang (April 1, 2015 – March 31, 2016)
Dr. Wang is a perfusionist from Children’s Hospital of Fudan University.  She is spending her time learning and observing in the Cardiovascular Center with her mentor, Dr. Bo Yang.

Karen is a final year medical student from Okayama University Medical School in Japan who participated in a four-week clinical elective in Internal Medicine.

Dr. Nachega, who is Associate Professor of Medicine and Epidemiology, Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health, and Professor Extraordinary, Department of Medicine, Stellenbosch University, Cape Town, South Africa, made several presentations during his visit to UMMS.

Dr. Bruna Moñtes is a graduate of Universidad La Salle in Mexico City, Mexico.  He is an intern at Hospital Materno Infantil Jose Domingo de Obaldia in Chiriqui, Panama.  During his visit he spent time learning and observing in the Department of Surgery – Section of Transplantation Surgery.

National Sun Yat-sen University (July 21, 2014)
A delegation of 30 physicians, nurses, healthcare managers and other health professionals from National Sun Yat-sen University in Taiwan visited Ann Arbor from July 18 – 29.  They participated in a training program through the School of Public Health focusing on organizational performance in health care, leadership in health management, quality of care, long term care and health informatics.  They toured the University Hospital, C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital, and the Frankel Cardiovascular Center.

Dr. Vrsalovic has the honor of being the Josip Matovinovic, M.D. Endowed Clinical Fellow for 2014.  He is a cardiologist from the University of Zagreb in Zagreb, Croatia.  He spent his visit in the Cardiovascular Center working on research with Dr. Theodore J. Kolias in echocardiographic techniques, analyzing patients’ echocardiograms using these techniques for research purposes and analyzing a database of research data.

Dr. Perdih is a research associate in the Laboratory for Biocomputing and Bioinformatics at the National Museum of Chemistry in Ljubljana, Slovenia.  He spent his time in the laboratory of his mentor, Dr. Zaneta Nikolovska-Coleska in Pathology.

Dr. N. Costin Radu (left) and Dr. Martin Kloeckner (right) were visiting cardiologists from Henri Mondor Hospital in Paris, France.  They are spent their time in Cardiac Surgery learning about our Mechanical Circulatory Assist Program, observing implantation of Left Ventricular Assist devices, adult cardiac transplantation, and to study our circulatory support program.

Dr. Richard Adanu (November 1 – 7, 2012)
Dr. Adanu is the dean of the School of Public Health at the University of Ghana in Accra, Ghana.  He spent his time meeting with various faculty, staff and students in the Medical School, School of Nursing, and School of Public Health.  He gave a talk at the School of Public Health, had planning meetings for MHIRT students, and attended the Ph.D. thesis defense for Cheryl Moyer.

Drs. Rojas and Espinosa visited Internal Medicine to observe and learn from Dr. John Del Valle.  They are from Pontifica Universidad Católica del  Ecuador in Quito, Ecuador.

Dr. Ji visited the Medical Innovation Center to work with Dr. James Geiger and Dr. Edward Jan on health innovation in academic medical centers, collaborative research in addressing unmet medical needs in low-resource populations, and inter-disciplinary approaches to addressing difficult health problems.  He is from Peking University Sixth Hospital in Beijing, China.

Dr. Nakano visited the Department of Family Medicine and trained with his mentor, Dr. Mas Jimbo, as part of the Department of Family Medicine Japanese Family Health Education Program.  He is from Okayama Central Hospital in Okayama, Japan.

Dr. Chang is a scholar who visited from the Division of Pulmonary Medicine from Peking University Health Science Center in Beijing, China, as part of the UMHS-PUHSC Joint Institute for Clinical and Translational Research.  She worked with Dr. Gary B. Huffnagle on the bioinformatics analysis of changes in the microbiology of the lungs during disease.

Dr. Wan is professor and chair of the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery at Peking University Third Hospital, President of the College of Cardiovascular Surgery at Peking University and Chair of the Chinese Association of Cardiovalscular Surgeons. His visit consisted of meetings with faculty and leadership at the Cardiovascular Center and touring the facilities.
