The University of Michigan Medical School (UMMS) has been actively pursuing collaborative efforts with a premier medical school in India, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) located in New Delhi. The President of the University of Michigan, Dr. Mary Sue Coleman, will be traveling to AIIMS and will spend a total of three days in New Delhi from November 12-15, 2013 aimed at extending collaborations with various universities including AIIMS and Delhi University. As part of our effort to explore an institutional partnership to advance collaborative research, the medical school’s Global REACH Office is accepting travel grant applications for a delegation that will parallel President Coleman’s visit to AIIMS.  The medical school delegation will be led by Dr. Joseph Kolars and co-led by Drs. Krishnan (Raghu) Raghavendran and Ruma Banerjee.  The visit will consist of 1:1 meetings between investigators from UMHS and AIIMS as well as exploratory group discussions on how best to explore a collaborative platform to advance research and education.  Two days (November 12-13) have been set aside for our meetings which will include collaborative and 1:1 discussions between investigators. The delegation is also invited to participate in the visit to AIIMS with President Coleman on the morning of November 14 followed by a luncheon.
